I’m halfway through my first Shred journey and cannot recommend it enough. I’ve done various different “programmes” but have always struggled with motivation and eventually dropped off. Sally is incredibly supportive and encouraging but challenges you to think about your body, your mental drivers behind exercise and nutrition and keeps you firmly on track. The group WhatsApp is full of recipe ideas, tricks for low kcal naughty wins and makes me feel like I have a crew behind me, just as invested in each other’s journey as their own! I have not been able to consistently diet for about 15 years. Initially I thought it was going to be a really full on exercise programme which was daunting given I’m a mum with a young child and new baby (and struggling to stay awake most days)! My goal was very much about fitness. Through Shred I now have an understanding of the decision making that I need to engage so that I can eat and drink in a way that is good for me, but also the differing types of exercise necessary too. As someone who has tried lots of different healthy eating plans, I’ve been loving Shred and haven’t felt deprived of anything - this to me is the key to keeping it up! I personally need the accountability of a programme to make me not just say “f*ck it” and make better, more conscious decisions. I’ve not done a calorie count diet since my teenage years - and then it was crispbreads and cottage cheese seven days a week! I also love that Shred makes me more enthusiastic about exercise, but recognising that this goes hand in hand with calorie intake to make a real difference. My biggest barrier with exercise has always been consistency, I’d sign up to a class and go for a few weeks before losing interest and / or motivation. I really wanted to be fitter and lose weight but I just couldn’t seem to stick at it. When I saw Shred advertised I thought the focused coaching would give me exactly the accountability I needed. I struggled initially but with support from Sally I soon adjusted to using the tracker which gave me a much needed structure. What really surprised though was the motivation I gained from the shred community. My individual team were endlessly supportive, the group whatsapp was filled with ideas, progress updates and positivity and I found an enthusiasm for exercising and diet that I’d previously struggled to tap into. Exercise became part of my routine not just in the online and bootcamp classes but either alone or with my team, all encouraging each other to get out and go for a run. Before I knew it I was achieving exercise goals I hadn’t expected to and a high point for me was at the very end of shred after 8 weeks when I ran 10 miles. I had always wanted to run that distance but never felt strong enough before and I’d started the programme barely managing 3k! I’d wholeheartedly recommend the programme to others, particularly for anyone, like me, who struggles to keep up exercise on a regular basis when life gets in the way. The behaviour change was my proudest achievement because of what it enabled me to do and how good I felt about myself afterwards. The weight loss, while fantastic, was an added bonus!”
